Entschuldigung, können Sie mir bitte sagen, wo die Post ist?
Excuse me, can you please tell me, where the post office is?
Natürlich, gehen Sie hundert Meter geradeaus. Dann gehen Sie nach rechts und nach ein paar Minuten biegen Sie links ab.
Of course, go straight for one hundred meters. Then go right, and after a few minutes, turn left.
Dort finden Sie das Postamt.
You (will) find the post office there.
Entschuldigung, können Sie mir bitte sagen, wie ich zur Bank komme?
Excuse me, can you please tell me how do I get to the bank?
Die Bank ist in der Nähe. Überqueren Sie dort an der Ampel die Straße. Gehen Sie dreihundert Meter die Straße entlang und dann finden Sie die Bank.
The bank is near. Cross the street there at the traffic light. Go three hundred meters along the street, and then you (will) find the bank.
Entschuldigung, können Sie mir bitte sagen, gibt es in der Nähe einen Supermarkt?
Excuse me, can you please tell me if there is a supermarket nearby?
Der Supermarkt befindet sich hinter dem großen Gebäude dort. Aber der Supermarkt ist jetzt geschlossen.
The supermarket is behind that big building there. But the supermarket is now closed.
Der Supermarkt ist bis acht Uhr geöffnet.
The supermarket works until eight o'clock.
Ich kann den Marktplatz nicht finden. Ich laufe dreißig Minuten durch die Straßen.
I cannot find the marketplace. I am walking through the streets for thirty minutes.
Der soll irgendwo in der Nähe sein, aber ich kann den nicht finden.
It should be somewhere nearby, but I cannot find it.
Vielleicht soll ich jemanden fragen, wie ich zum Marktplatz komme?
Maybe I should ask someone, how can I come to the marketplace?
Hier ist eine Dame.
Here is a lady.
Entschuldigung, wo ist bitte der Marktplatz?
Excuse me, where is the marketplace, please?
Hier gibt es keinen Marktplatz. Sie müssen mit der U-Bahn Linie A in Richtung Stadtzentrum fahren.
There is no marketplace here. You have to go with the subway line A in the direction of the city center.
Steigen Sie an der zweiten Station aus.
Step off at the second station.
Dort finden Sie den Marktplatz.
There you will find the marketplace.
mir means "to me". This is a dative case of the personal pronoun "ich".
gehen Sie is imperative. This is a way to give commands. If you are talking with someone in a polite manner, you just use the infinitive of the verb, and add "Sie". Don't forget the "Sie".
abbiegen means "to bend". It is a verb with a separable prefix. The root of the verb is in the standard second place in a sentence, and the prefix goes to the end of the sentence.
Postamt is the old-fashioned way to say Post.
The preposition zu is used when going to different services (shop, bank, post office...). When you travel to cities or countries, you will use "nach".
Ampel is a feminine noun. Here we are talking about the location where a person should cross the street. When we talk about a location, we use the dative case. So the definite article becomes "der".
The literal translation would be "The supermarket finds itself behind the big building there". Some verbs use reflexive pronouns ("sich" in this case) and are called reflexive verbs.
Again, we are talking about a location, so the dative case is used.
geöffnet is actually the past participle of the verb "öffnen". But this sentence is not in the past. Past participles of verbs can often be used as adjectives, so "geöffnet" here is used as the adjective "opened". We will talk about the past tense in the German language in lessons to come.
Here we see the dative case again. Note that the adjective "zweite" (second) is also in dative. We will talk about adjective declension soon.
aussteigen (to get off, to step off) is a verb with a separable prefix.
